Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon, London, UK
Jump on the underground in London - the Northern Line - and end up at Colindale Underground Station. A short walk to the Hendon Museum and you are in aviation heaven. Being the Royal Air Force museum, one expects all the best aircraft from the RAF past. You will not be disappointed! It is a treasure trove to say the least! From the minute you walk into the Milestones of Flight hangar, you will be enthralled by the aircraft on display. I visited the museum in 2003 and 2004 and need to visit there again. The history involved at the museum is immense. Early flight, bewteen wars and WW2 aircraft are plentiful. There are some rareties as well such as the Halifax bomber that was pulled from a lake in Norway and a Stuka bomber - an aircraft I have not seen in any other museum I have visited. The list goes on of course - a Supermarine Stranraer seaplane, a Wellington bomber, a Heinkel He 162A-2 - aircraft from my childhood books... Mustang, Spitfire, Typhoon (a first for me), Avro Rota, Sabre, Flying Fortress - and so the list goes on. Wonderful stuff!
The best of all, entry is free - yes, free! Well worth the visit!
